When you come to the outpatient clinic, you’ll visit our hospital regularly for an appointment with the therapist. A therapist is a social worker who will help you get better. After the appointment you can go home. After a while, you and your parents can come back for a talk. When and how often is agreed upon with your therapist.
During the conversations with the therapist, you’ll talk about your problems. All the children who visit our outpatient clinic have issues at home, at school or just don’t feel well.
To properly find out what your problems are and what is the best way for us to help you, you will also take some tests in the playroom. Sometimes you’ll need to make a drawing. This way we can discover what you’re really good at and what you still need to learn. The doctor will also have a talk with you and your parents to determine what’s going on. This paediatrician is also called a child psychiatrist. When we’ve done enough research, we’ll set up a plan together. This plan will explain how to approach and work on your problems. When you’re feeling better after a while, you won’t have to come to the clinic as often anymore. After a while, you don’t even have to come anymore at all.
Ask your mother, father or another adult to read this website together with you. They can help you to explain things you might not understand (yet).
